St. Bernard Mission School
I have participated in several trips to the Saint Bernard Mission School in Standing Rock. Each opportunity I have had to volunteer at this school has been unique. I have worked with students of all grade levels ranging from Kindergarten to 6th. I have planned gym activities as well as worked with groups of students on different core subjects. I also had the opportunity to observe the Montessori method of teaching, for the school is slowly adapting their teaching methods to that teaching style.

Junior Achievement
In the spring of 2019, I had the opportunity to volunteer for Junior Achievement. I worked with two 4th grade classrooms, teaching them all about what it means to be an entrepreneur within five different sessions. This experience helped me expand on the importance of incorporating real life scenarios into lessons.

Adult Life Ed. Center
In the spring of 2019, I had the opportunity to create a lesson for the students attending the Adult Life Ed. Center. The lesson I made focused on expressing feelings and emotions through tossing a bean bag onto different pieces of construction paper that faced downward. Each construction paper had a different emotion attached to it. This was a great experience for me because I was able to see how much these students enjoyed getting to share different aspects of their lives, what they enjoy, and what makes them happy. This lesson also worked on communication skills and understanding how others around them feel in different situations.

Touchmark
This was a cake decorating contest that I participated in during Valentines Day at Touchmark in Bismarck. There were University of Mary teams that participated in this contest. Residents of Touchmark voted for their favorite cake at the end of the contest. This was a great way for me to get out and be involved in a unique activity within the community.

Watch D.O.G.S
In my Practicum II classroom at Grimsrud Elementary, I had the privilege in helping launch the first event of Watch D.O.G.S, which stands for Dads Of Great Students. The purpose of this organization is to involve dads or father figures more within the school. Fathers have the opportunity to volunteer within the school for a full day participating in a variety of activities ranging from recess duty to helping out in the classroom with small groups. This is a way to have a male role model present for students to look up to. Being a part of this event showed me the importance of involving fathers or father figures in their students education. Seeing the excitement within the students eyes was heartwarming, and I look forward to seeing how this organization continues to advance.
